    Artist Statement from Egg:

Since my start in designing for Ar Ais Aris, my practice has taken a major turning point. From the success of the parties themselves to making event flyers that feel authentically me, it’s been a beautiful journey.

I’m often asked if prints would be sold of these flyers, although I feel there is something sacred about yanking a flyer you love off a pub wall, hanging it in your gaff and keeping it as a memory of the fun times you’ve had as a raver.

These flyers have always highlighted space for women + queers in the ‘rave’ and I think my ‘rave girlie’ has shown precedent to this aim in every Ar Ais Arís party- there is always a visible row of girls and gays claiming their space to hard hitting, bassy and current dance music in Galway.

As a club flyer designer myself, I end up owning very little of my own work. I am a very detailed oriented illustrator and have been since I was a wee egg. My designs are confined to the Instagram square as a result of cost inflation in the electronic music industry.

Printing flyers could be something that’s disregarded when trying to cut down costs to realise a party, and I see that a lot when looking at how promoters work. From promoting actual events, to people primarily making digital releases, I find myself stuck in the 1080x1080 pixel.

For AAA’s first music release, I wanted to design a cover that would hit as hard as a physical release. While a physical release isn’t happening for AAA001, I’ve made the album art available as a print - replicating a vinyl sleeve, echoing the tradition of every Ar Ais Arís event flyer being physically printed to be distributed all around Galway City.

It is as close as I could get to a vinyl design format, without all the overheads :) I’m constantly questioning where I stand as a visual artist in the electronic music industry, and where I could level up. I’m still not 100% sure but this seems like a good step forward. GET ME OUT OF THE ALGORITHM ! oh, AND BUY THE MUSIC!

about

Ar Ais Arís (AAA) is an electronic music night providing a safe space for counter-culture in Galway, on the west coast of Ireland. It combines DIY approaches with high production values through art, graphic design, venue decor & lighting, and high-end soundsystems. The night places a strong emphasis on inclusivity, diversity and safety.

The AAA team is very proud to announce the launch of a dedicated label. The first release is a compilation featuring five tracks from producers associated with Ireland's bass music underground and the AAA club night itself.

Since its inception, Ar Ais Arís (AAA) has fostered a welcoming space for counter-culture expression while prioritising inclusivity, diversity, and safety. The launch of the AAA label represents a progression to providing a platform for Irish electronic music producers. The debut release features a five-track compilation showcasing the talent and innovation within Ireland’s underground bass music scene:

Doubt, co-founder of Cork's Dose clubnight and a key figure behind the Flood label, delivers a hard-drum soundtrack to an air-raid on 'Laced Up'.

PlusOne's 'Bonk' is a dynamic, bouncy 4x4 track infused with his signature art-pop sound design, and boundless energy, as club-ready as they come.

Fresh off a breakthrough year in 2023, Sloucho's 'WAKE UP HAPPY!!' is a dark and glitchy 160 number with twisted, pitched vocals and frantic percussion.

Dublin icon and Club Comfort co-founder, Roo Honeychild, comes through delivers "Operations of Grace," a dreamy jersey-club-inspired composition.

Final, Leipzig-based Galway export, Free House co-founder and egg-pink aficionado Luke Kiid draws on grime and UK Funky sounds on the cheekiest of flips of Hazey's Packs and Potions.

The compilation aims to It aims to capture the sound of contemporary club-ready bass music from Ireland, and the AAA party series.
